Educast 2: Code of Ethics in Public Service Interpreting
This educast examines the crucial realm of Public Service Interpreting (PSI) ethics, emphasizing the fundamental principles encapsulated in the code of ethics. Through a prototypical scenario in a medical setting within a reception center for asylum seekers, the educast illustrates in-person interpretation dynamics involving a refugee patient and a healthcare provider. It then explores the core tenets, referred to as the "high-five-itys" in PSI interpreting standards: integrity, comprehensibility, impartiality, confidentiality, and humanity. Offering practical guidance, the educast features a simulation as a best practice example, guiding viewers through essential dos and don'ts in ethical interpreting practices. This concise module equips interpreters with a solid foundation in ethical considerations within the context of Public Service Interpreting.
