ReTrans Videocasts and Podcasts

The ReTrans videocasts and podcasts will allow you to gain an insight into the communication needs and the challenges of interpreting in a refugee and humanitarian context. Different stakeholders share their personal views and take you on a journey from the Western Balkan route to Austria. The different episodes give voice to refugees, interpreters, humanitarian aid workers, institutional representatives, asylum officials and interpreter educators and reveal the tightrope interpreters have to walk between empathy and professionalism.

We thank all our interview partners for sharing their experience!

Let yourself be taken on a journey to a different reality…

Trigger warning: The stories may deal with topics such as flight, persecution, war and terror.

Student Videos

The three videos listed below were produced by students at the Ionian University in Greece. They show how students perceive different aspects of public service interpreting (PSI) and topics they found relevant when learning about PSI. The videos and the wording do not necessarily present an accorded view of PSI and can be used to provoke discussion in the classroom and reflection on the different topics that are presented.

The format of the videos was chosen by the students themselves based on what they would find interesting and appealing – preferences regarding the format may not be shared by all users. Each video is followed by instructions for use in class (e.g. group discussions and hypothetical scenarios).
